Mini Implant Dentistry Tampa

How it works:

Mini ImplantsA small diameter mini dental implant looks very similar to a screw and is used to securely anchor a replacement tooth or denture in your jawbone. Unlike most conventional wider implants, minis can usually be placed and restored in one visit and used immediately. Generally no cutting of the gum tissue is needed and recovery time is remarkably short. Due to their smaller size, mini dental implants usually do not require extensive bone grafting for patients with little or less dense bone.

Initially, mini dental implants were used as transitional devices but long-term studies have shown that they offer a viable, permanent and highly effective treatment option to replace missing teeth. They are a minimally invasive option yet share all the benefits of conventional implants: No more gaps in your dentition, no grinding of healthy toothstructure for bridgework, no more loose or overly extended dentures that cause you to gag and move when you talk and chew.

A special and patented coating is used on the surface of the implant to ensure that your body will accept and integrate it just like it would a real tooth. With the crown or denture delivered the same day your mini dental implants are placed, you never have to worry about a temporary restoration. This means you will get a new tooth or securely anchored denture in just two short visits!

What you can expect

When you visit us at Lake Park Dental for your consultation appointment Dr. Jockin will discuss your medical history, review the necessary xrays and perform an exam to determine if you are a candidate for mini dental implants. Due to their minimally invasive nature and great biocompatibility (ie, your body accepts the device) most patients qualify and a mold of your gums and existing teeth is taken. This impression will allow Dr. Jockin and the laboratory to efficiently and fully prepare for your treatment appointment. You can expect this visit to take about an hour.

During the treatment appointment, Dr. Jockin will locally numb your gums and use your customfabricated guide stent to place the mini dental implants and the restoration (ie, crown, bridge or denture). Patients sometimes wonder if they will feel pain during the procedure and are always pleased at how easy and fast it goes. After we determine that everything is perfect and we have shown you how to take excellent care of your new teeth you are done. As soon as the numbness wears off you are free to eat and use your new teeth! Depending on the case, we usually schedule 1-2 hours of your time for this visit.

While some patients report no post-operative discomfort at all, you can expect some soreness as a result of the procedure for up to a few days. If necessary, over-the-counter pain relievers can be taken to alleviate any discomfort. Dr. Jockin will see you for a follow-up visit to ensure speedy recovery and reconfirm proper bite relations of your new mini dental implants with the other teeth.
